RULES AND REGULATIONS

Superintendents in all departments will run their departments as they see fit, and they will have the full cooperation of the fair board.

  1. The officers and directors will be on the grounds during the Fair and will be convened for business whenever the President has business to submit. They shall have control of every article and animal upon the grounds, and while every precaution for the protection of property will be taken, the Secretary will under no circumstances be held responsible for any loss, which may occur.

  2. Each division will be in charge of efficient Superintendents who will be upon the grounds, have control of the arrangements and all exhibits and assist exhibitors in systematically arranging the same to show to the best advantage of spectators as well as to the committees.

  3. Each superintendent shall receive the class book of the various classes of his division from the Secretary, taking charge of the same, and record all awards made by the awarding committee, instruct committees as to their work, having the books signed by each member of the committee and returned to the Secretary as soon as the work is done. When the classes are large and require it, the Superintendent may appoint an assistant for the same.

  4. Exhibitors are expected to obey the Superintendent promptly in producing their stock when requested to do so. Any refractory person will be ruled out from competing.

  5. The Butler County Sherriff’s Office are the conservators of the peace and it shall be their duty to arrest any person creating any disorder or violating any law of the state or rule of the society. 

ENTRIES

  1. Competition in all Open Class Departments is not limited.

  2. Books will usually be ready in late May or early June, and entries may be made by mail after that date. Great care will be taken that such entries are correctly made, entered and entry tags safely returned.

  3. All stalls and pen reservations must be made five days prior to opening date. All Floral Hall entries must be in place by 6:00 p.m. Entry Day, except flowers and plants. (See Dept. H)

  4. Entries may be made by mail or at the Secretary's office at Allison anytime after June 23, 2004.  Persons intending to exhibit are requested to make their entries, if possible, before Entry Day.

  5. Exhibitors must see to their articles and designate the particular variety to which they belong and in which class they wish to have them entered as no change will be made after being on the Secretary's books. The responsibility must rest with the exhibitor.

  6. 11. Should any individual exhibit an animal or article in other name than that of a bona fide owner to attempt to perpetrate a fraud upon the department by misrepresenting any facts, the entry thus made shall not be allowed to compete for or receive any premium. In case of question as to age of animal, the superintendent shall appoint an expert whose decision shall be final.

  7. The artists, manufacturers or agents must enter articles, which are result of mechanical or artistic skill.

  8. Articles that are products of the soul must be entered by the bona fide owner or agent and shall be owned by an exhibitor at least twenty days previous to entry.

  9. All articles, goods or stock must be entered as listed in this catalogue.

  10. No charge will be made for entries.

  11. Entries for special premiums must be made with the Secretary of the same as for other premiums and the purpose expressly stated.

  12. Copies of the premium list will be furnished free upon application to the Secretary.

  13. All articles and animals can be entered in any class to which they are eligible and compete for more than one premium.

  14. When there is no competition the Judges and the Division Superintendent shall decide whether the first, second or no premium shall be awarded.

  15. In case of one exhibitor, only one premium will be paid.

  16. A committee may award the diploma of the Society when in their judgment, justice demands, but in no case can a premium be changed after the books have passed out of the Superintendent's hands.

PROTESTS

  1. All protests must be made in writing, setting forth the ground for protesting.

  2. Protests against the exhibition of either animal or article must be filed with the Secretary before the awards are made and will be considered before the hour of showing.

  3. Protests against the awards must be filed with Secretary immediately after award is made, and will be considered by the auditing committee, which will examine cause of complaint and settle the dispute at once and no further hearing will be had. No complaint or appeal based on the statement that the Awarding Committee has overlooked articles or animals will be considered.

STAND PRIVILEGES

  1. Parties wanting stand privileges must apply to the Secretary for location. All parties must apply to the Secretary for license before setting up.

GENERAL RULES

  1. Goods and stock must be delivered on the grounds and put in place by the exhibitors and removed by them at the close of the Fair. Animals dying on fairgrounds of unknown cause shall be posted at owners' expense and disposed of.

  2. All exhibits in all departments must remain on the grounds until 8:00 p.m., closing day of the Fair, except Floral Hall exhibits may be removed at 6:00 p.m. Anyone removing any exhibit before that time will forfeit their premium money unless they have proper authorization. This does not apply to the Club Calves, Market or Pigs or Sheep. They may be removed immediately after the sale.

  3. Exhibitors making entries and not exhibiting shall forfeit all fees for space, stalls, pens and exhibitor tickets. No refunds will be made for any reason, except by official action of the Executive Committee in each case. All applications for entries or exhibits must be made in accordance with Rules of Secretary's office and in accord with instructions found in the various departments.

  4. No intoxicated or other improper and disorderly person will be permitted on the grounds and it is made the duty of the marshal and police to arrest on view all persons and forth with take them before the proper officers to be dealt with according to law.

  5. Exhibitors can object to committeemen and the directors will make other selections with the advice of the President.

  6. Cattle Stalls, $8.00 per head. Fair Association will furnish all bedding. No free bedding. All barns must be cleaned out by 10:00 am each day.

  7. The gates will be opened at 8:00 a.m. each day. Anyone who misbehaves or uses vulgar or profane language within the enclosure during the exhibition will be compelled to leave the grounds.

  8. In case the funds of the Society after paying incident expenses shall not be sufficient to pay the full amount of the premiums that may be awarded, the same will be paid pro rata among the successful competitors.

  9. The auditing committee will meet the second Saturday following the Fair to audit all bills against the Society and to examine reports of Superintendents and committees and as soon after said meeting as practical, premiums will be sent to exhibitors.

  10. All bills not presented by the second Saturday following the close of the Fair will lay over until the next season.

  11. An exhibitor in any way trying to influence or obstruct the Judges in making awards shall be ruled out and shall not be allowed the compete in any class.

  12. Judges shall not award prizes to an unworthy animal.  It is the intention of the Fair Management that no premium or distinction of any kind shall be given any animal or does not deserve. This rule must be strictly adhered there be competition or not.

  13. Stalls for cattle and pens for swine and sheep may be secured from Frances Krull, Secretary, 16131 270th St., Aplington, IA 50604. Stalls for cattle, $8.00 per heads; Pens for sheep, $4.00 per pens.

  14. All barns must be cleaned by 10:00 a.m. daily. Keep 2 wash racks and between barns picked up.

Open Breeding Beef Show

  1. Entries start Friday morning, June 25TH at 8:00 a.m. and close Friday at 10:00 a.m. Released after show on Friday, June 25TH.
  2. Beef Cattle - $8.00 per head including bedding (EXCEPTION - for 4-H calves already in barns $5.00 per head).
    Exhibitors must keep space in rear of stall clean, stall open and stock uncovered by 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each day of the fair.
  3. Judging at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 25TH.
  4. All animals exhibited shall be owned and registered in exhibitors name at the time of making entries.
  5. Cattle are not eligible for showing if they are not broke to lead.
  6. All animals must have registration available with exception of class no. 14 and 2004 born calves.
  7. All animals disqualified for class, if not in ring by time of final placing.
  8. All animals must be healthy and free of any contagious disease. Fair Vet will inspect all animals upon arrival.
  9. 1st and 2nd place animals in classes come out for champion and reserve, also champion and reserve come out for grand and reserve grand champion.
  10. No straw - bedding provided.
  11. Classes may be grouped at the discretion of the superintendent.
  12. At least 2 exhibitors per breed for breed show, otherwise they go into class 15 A or B.
  13. Prize money, 1st $10.00, 2nd $7.00, 3rd $5.00 for all cash premiums.

2004 Butler County Open Dairy Show

Dairy Promoters Committee and Assistant Superintendents

  1. Cattle must be entered by 10:00 a.m. on the day of the show.  Cattle may be brought to the grounds the day prior to show. Stalls will be furnished.

  2. All cattle must be out of barns by 6:00 p.m., day of show.

  3. Entry fee is $6.00 per head including Universal bedding, $5.00 per head for 4-H calves already in the barn.

  4. Bagged bedding is available upon request for $4.00 per bag.

  5. One breed cannot receive more than one money per class, unless there is another exhibiting in the class.

  6. All animals must have official health papers signed by a veterinarian.

  7. Fresh senior yearlings will show as two year olds.

  8. Breed champions will each receive a trophy.  A supreme champion cow will be selected from the champions of each breed.  A trophy will be presented to the supreme champion.

  9. All animals must be registered or VIP or I.D. Grades will be shown in aged cow class.

  1. The books of the Secretary will be open for making entries at her office. Entries must be made by 9:00 p.m. Thursday, June 24th.  Positively no exceptions. All applications for entries must be made upon printed forms furnished by the Secretary.

  2. Stalls for sheep may be reserved at the office of the Secretary at $4.00 per pen. Parties ordering stalls by letter shall name the kind of sheep to be exhibited and the number of stalls needed. The management reserves the right to allot the stalls after the entries close. No alterations in stalls will be permitted without the permission of the Superintendent.

  3. Exhibitors of Purebred Animals must furnish certificate of registry for all animals over 1 year of age. Other satisfactory evidence of breeding animals less than 1 year of age will be accepted.

  4. Exhibitors must have their stock in place by 9:00 a.m. on June 24th, the day of judging.

  5. Exhibitors must keep alleyway around their pens clear and free from offal.

  6. Each exhibitor must decorate his stalls and exhibit a place card showing the breed of animals exhibited and exhibitor’s name and address.

STEER & HEIFER BEEF

OPEN PEN & CARCASS SHOW

Sunday, June 27, 2004      6:00 p.m.

REGULATIONS FOR THE 2002 BUTLER COUNTY CATTLEMEN’S OPEN PEN AND CARCASS SHOW

  1. The show will be held in conjunction with the Butler County Fair at approximately 6:00 p.m. on June 27th in the Show Arena.

  2. Competition open to any beef producer of Butler County or adjoining counties.

  3. There will be a steer division and a heifer division.

  4. Entry fee $10.00 per animal.

  5. Five animals per person in each division.

  6. Cattle must have been owned and fed by exhibitor at least 90 days prior to show.

  7. This will be both a live and carcass contest. All animals must be entered in both. All animals will be consigned to a packer for sale on the yield basis. More information on this will be available at a later date.

  8. Cattle will be tagged by the Butler County Cattlemen’s Association.

  9. Cattle will be delivered to Fairgrounds in Allison between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m. on June 27th.

  10. Animals are not to be groomed, washed, clipped, or haltered, and will be shown loose in the ring. Exhibitors will not be permitted in the ring, except Cattlemen board members.

  11. Freight to Packing house will be pro-rated and paid by exhibitor.

  12. No sharp horns and no wild cattle.

  13. Award money will be pro-rated according to number of entries.

LIVE CONTEST

  1. Judging: Top ten animals in each division will be picked by qualified judges. Placing to be on the basis of estimated carcass desirability.

  2. All animals shown in Live Contest must be entered in Carcass Contest.

CARCASS CONTEST

1. Judging:

  1. Top ten carcasses in each division will be picked by qualified judges.

  2. Eligible carcasses will be placed on basis of cutability and quality.

100 % of Entry Money will be paid back in Premiums according to each division. Plaques and ribbons donated by Butler County Fair Association and other local sponsors.  

OPEN JUDGING CONTEST

1. There will be a judging contest for spectators with beef certificates as prizes. Plaques and ribbons donated by Butler County Fair Association and Butler County Cattlemen.

RULES

  1. Entries to be placed between the hours of 3:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Entry Day but entries to be made before 6:00 p.m.

  2. Competition is open to residents of Butler County and all surrounding counties.

  3. No exhibitor may make more than one entry in each class.

  4. The exhibitor must grow entries in specimen class. Stems must be uniform in length. They must be displayed in milk bottles or plain jars, and labeled as to variety, if possible.

  5. Entries in the Artistic Division need not be grown by the exhibitor, but must be the work of the exhibitor.

  6. Foliage, other than flowers is permitted in all classes.

  7. Houseplants must be grown in the container and in possession of the exhibitor for at least 3 months, and labeled as to variety, if possible.

  8. Only classes listed will receive entries for competition-other than listed will be placed on display, only.

  9. The committee will not be responsible for loss or breakage, though reasonable care will be taken.
