COME ONE – COME ALL – YOU can be part of the competition. Butler County has a LOT of talent and we want you to share yours. With over 700 classes to enter in the Open Class Floral Hall everyone should find a way to compete. You have right up until entry day to figure out what you might want to bring to the fair. It's not too late to start working on that entry!
There are lots of categories of Growing Things…from herbs, vegetables and fruits, house plants and outdoor flower pots and landscape plants. There are categories of Artistic Arrangements, Fascinating Photos, Crazy-Complicated Quilts, Several Sewing Selections, and Fabulous Foods! Just open up the 2011 Butler County Fairbook and take a peek. You will find “something” you can enter too! Our Fairbook is also found online at butlercountyfair.com. ENTRY IS WEDNESDAY JUNE 22, STARTING AT 8:00 A.M.
Pie Bakers of Butler County will have a chance to boast their talents at the Pie Baking Contest held Saturday morning at 10:00a.m. at the Hospitality Pavilion. Bakers can enter in 4 different categories Berry Pies, Fruit Pies, Nut Pies, and Cream Pies.
Is Grilling more your style? The Butler County Farm Bureau will hold their Annual Cookout Contest on Saturday this year. Both contestants and samplers will be anticipating the 3:00 p.m. judging. This year’s categories include Pork, Beef, Lamb/Goat, Poultry, Turkey, Elk, and Combo/Specialty. In addition to their county fair prizes winners will qualify for a trip to the State Fair! A Youth category is available for grillers ages 13 – 18 as of August 1, 2011. Contact Butler County Farm Bureau prior to the fair to participate.
If outdoor fun is your nitch, a 16-Team Bean Bag Tournament will begin Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the tented area west of the Arena. The tournament will be a double elimination bracket. Registration for the tournament will be in the secretary’s office during the fair.
Then on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. be sure to take part in the Horseshoe Tournament under the shade trees on the NW corner of the fairgrounds. This friendly competition is open to pitchers of all ages and has no entry fee or early registration.
And rounding out the lineup of flaunting your talent will be the 4th Annual Homemade Winemaking Contest. Entries will be accepted right up until 11:00 a.m. Sunday, with judging to begin at 1:00. Not a winemaker? Be sure to come by and sample your favorites and cast your vote for the People’s Choice Winner.
Take your chance at earning a Blue Ribbon or maybe even a trophy at this year’s fair. We offer an expanded lineup of contests and fun for people of all ages with all kinds of interests.

FREE FOR KIDS OF ALL AGES
THANKS TO OUR FAIR SPONSORS we are able to bring you an entertaining lineup of talent for FREE in our Hospitality Pavilion at the west end of the fair grounds. Thursday afternoon is SENIOR CITIZEN DAY featuring BINGO and prizes. There will be a solid lineup of lots of entertainment from noon to 5:00 p.m. Bill Arndorfer and Mitch Nordmeyer will be on hand explaining their Butler County services and answering your questions. Also on Thursday we’re turning back the calendar to the 50s and 60s setting the mood for our Buddy Holly Reunion and Sock Hop held in the grandstand with the talented Richie Lee leading the fun. Make sure you check out the Car Show also on display Thursday afternoon inside the north gate.
Saturday morning is KIDS DAY and you will find there’s FREE fun for the whole family all day long. Check the schedule in the center section for a complete list of activities including the Chuck Wagon Races and the Scrambles. You’ll want to bring the whole family including grandpa and grandma – because Everyone loves to “Be a Kid Again”.
And Sunday morning we hope you will join the Randy Aalderks Family for the Sunday morning worship. You’ll want to come early to get a good seat and enjoy the coffee and rolls. Also on Sunday enjoy the variety of the Bill Riley Talent Search promising to offer music and dance and some familiar faces.

One Man Band Jason Brown is a very talented musician performing blues/country/rock across the Midwest. Merv Edeker and Beaver Creek Bluegrass who have been fair favorites for many years; Russ Guyer is back for a second year and is looking forward to entertaining the seniors! Lori King with Bluegrass Addiction is also back for a second year. They really had fun last year and are glad to be back again. Johnson Strings have played at the fair for many years. We have watched the children grow and they continue to inspire audiences young and old. Borderline Band should sound familiar. Jim Rewerts and the gang have played around the Allison and Clarksville area for some time.
Friday following the Katie Armiger and Gloriana concert, the high energy will continue with Danny Grouse & Uncle Tater!! Danny and his very talented group of 4 musicians have played for many notable shows including: concert pre-parties at the Iowa Events Center for 'Toby Keith', and 'Rascal Flats'. He has opened for 'Nashville Star' Finalist 'Shawn Mayer' and been a headline event at the Iowa State Fair.
AND, after the scrambles are over don't leave the grounds! Come on back to the Pavilion for continued FREE entertainment!! DJ Corey Backer will keep the night rolling. He will play all your requests till dawn (actually until 1:00 A.M.). We just never give up given' you the greatest FREE entertainment in the county!!

ALWAYS SOMETHING TO EXPLORE
Chainsaw carver Dexter Braun will be back this year to display his chainsaw carving talents. Fairgoers have the opportunity to order carvings prior to the fair and then watch as their project is made live on the grounds. Orders for name logs or animal carvings can be placed by contacting Krista Kluiter at krista.simpson@yahoo.com.
Quail Valley Farms Petting Zoo will be on the grounds by the sheep barn with their friendly little creatures like exotic birds, baby lambs, fuzzy rabbits and many other kids’ favorites. The zoo will be open both Friday and Saturday during the fair.
Balloon artist Daryl Anderson will be making balloon creations for kids of all ages on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday evenings and Saturday morning during the Kids Day activities. Do your best to challenge Darryl with hard to make creations and watch as he amazes.
A new act comes to us highly recommended from Nebraska this year: singer/songwriter Pat Boilesen and poet/storyteller Bill May make up Cowboy Poet. Together the duo delivers their original poetry, music, laughs, and may even bring out a tear as they reminisce of days “back when”.
Antique Tractors and Machinery are an important part of our heritage and have paved the way to the tools we enjoy today. We want to say “Thanks Again Jim” for your influence in making our popular display what it has become over the years. This year we will continue our display again all 5 days of the fair in the grass area north of the grandstand feature some of the most common John Deere to some of the rarest Minneapolis-Moline. Judges award prizes in the display for Best of Show, Oldest in Show, Most Original and fairgoers help to award the prize for People’s Choice.
Don’t forget to stroll thru the livestock barns. Every animal at the fair is someone’s pet. They have given it a name and spent months caring for, and learning to love it. So get acquainted with the 4-H and FFA projects Butler County youth are so proud of. They will be glad to share stories of how they fed, tamed, and bathed a project that has helped them develop important life and leadership skills.

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE
We have a great selection of concessions available at the Butler County Fair. Last year we introduced Super Saver FAMILY Packs. These grandstand ticket packs include coupons to several food concessionaires for free and reduced price treats. See the ‘TICKET INFORMATION’ for the list of special savings. Food vendors in the food court area at the west end of the grounds will be Campbell Family Concessions, Debbie’s Fudge Factory, MJ Enterprises’ Mini Donuts, The Iowa Grill, and Windwalker Concession. The food court area will include a tent and picnic tables for you to relax and enjoy your meals and treats. But don’t overlook the Grandstand Concessions operated by Parkersburg Methodist Church, the Dairy Promoters, or the 4-H Feed Shed all located near the grandstand and east side of the grounds. I hope you can visit them ALL.
The commercial exhibitors building is filled again this year with many returning exhibitors and also some new ones. Be sure to stop by each one and thank them for bringing their services to you. New Carnival at 2010 Butler County Fair
Look for new rides and carnival games at the 2010 Butler County Fair as Smith Amusements will be showcased in this year’s midway. Smith Amusements is one of the premier carnivals in the State of Iowa and delivers a safe, family friendly atmosphere for fairgoers to enjoy the fair. As part of the new carnival experience advance tickets sales are now taking place throughout Butler County. 4-H members have been selling tickets for more than a month now as part of their clubs SuperSaver sales.
Tickets are also available by contacting any fairboard member, in Allison tickets are being sold at Lincoln Savings Bank and Kluiter Auto Repair, tickets purchased before the fair are half price or $5 per sheet. Come out and enjoy the improved carnival attractions at the 2010 Butler County Fair June 23-27th.

Antique Tractor Pull and Display returns to the Fair this year
For over a dozen years now an Antique Tractor Pull and Display have been a popular attraction at the Butler County Fair and this year will be no different. Every year features a new showing of old iron and is always a big hit with young and old fairgoers. The tractor display runs all 5 days of the fair in the grass area north of the grandstand, this year’s display will feature more than a half dozen different tractor brands including some of the most common John Deere’s to some of the rarest Minneapolis-Moline’s. Judges award prizes in the display for Best of Show, Oldest in Show, Most Original and fairgoers help to award the prize for People’s Choice.
This year’s Antique Tractor Pull is a free grandstand show and it takes place on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00p.m. in the grandstand. Seven different stock weight classes are offered with trophies being awarded in each class.

Chainsaw Artist Dexter Brahn at 2010 Butler County Fair
Dexter Brahn will be back at the Butler County Fair this year demonstrating his chainsaw carving talents. New to the carving attraction is the opportunity to pre-order a carving and watch as it’s made at the fair! Barney of Mayberry Coming to the Butler County Fair
Scott "Barney" Epperson a nationally renowned Barney Fife impersonator and will be coming to the 2010 Butler County Fair on Thursday June, 24th and Saturday June ,26th. Scott is a "dead ringer" of Barney Fife, the bumbling deputy of Mayberry. He looks, walks, talks, and acts as only Barney can, and always reminds people to "nip it in the bud.” Come join Barney as he mingles with the crowd, signs autographs, and takes photos with fans but be careful as this lovable lawman is always mindful of his public safety duty and passes out tickets to the fairgoers as needed. FB Cookout Contest
An outdoor cooking contest designed to promote Iowa meat is being planned by the Butler County Farm Bureau. You don’t have to be an expert chef to participate; you just need to enjoy cooking outdoors with quality Iowa meat.
Since 1965, the Iowa Farm Bureau has held their Annual Cookout Contest on the Grand Concourse of the Iowa State Fair. Farm Bureau’s cookout contest is open to any Iowa resident age 13 years or older. Past cookout champions and Farm Bureau or affiliated company employees are not eligible to compete.
Contestants can compete individually in one of the following categories: pork, beef, lamb/goat, poultry, turkey, and combo/specialty. Combo is a combination of at least two of the six meats in one recipe. Specialty includes elk or any other Iowa domestically raised product excluding wild game. Special recognition will also go to winners of showmanship youth and team cooking categories.
The county contest will be held on Sunday, June 27th at the fairgrounds in Allison. Judging (and samples) will be held at 12:00 noon. The Cookout Champion, along with all first place category winners and winners of the showmanship, youth and team awards will have the chance to compete in the state finals at the Iowa State Fair on August 17, 2010.

If you have ever thought about entering 'something' to compete at the fair but were not sure if it would win or even how to go about entering that 'something'? Well, here is your opportunity! There are over 700 Open Class categories you can enter, so chances are you can find ‘something’ that someone else might find interesting.
You could enter your Herbs, growing in your kitchen window! There will be many Vegetables, ready by fair time. How about your Rhubarb or those beautifully kept House Plants, Lambs Ear, Peony, Impatients, Grasses, or Hostas just to name a few.
You could enter an Artistic Arrangement. These can be fresh, dried or artificial. These are themed such as 'Rural Reflection' 'Door Swag' or 'A
Basket of Beauty'. How about a Food entry? Do you bake? Do you decorate cakes and cupcakes? Here is a great time to show off your favorite bread recipe or canned fruit, canned vegetables or canned meat!
Do you Sew? Quilt? Do Needle work? Or how about Make Dolls or Toys?? There is even a department for Fine Art. There is Weaving, Glass Etching, Wood Carving, Wood Burning, Stained Glass, Stamping and Macramé'. There is a category for Wreaths, Art Work, Wood and of all things Recycled.

FREE PETTING ZOO AT THE FAIR
Quail Valley Farms Petting Zoo will be returning to the 2010 Butler County Fair for Friday and Saturday. Some of animals you will see will be miniature horse, Great Pyrenees dog, potbellied pig, exotic sheep and goats, rabbits, peacock, geese, turkeys, exotic pheasants, chickens, ducks, and cats. This is an interactive petting zoo that all ages of children and adults can enjoy.
How Do You Like Your Wine?
A contest still new to the Butler County Fair is the Homemade Wine Making Contest. Butler County residents are keeping up with an explosion of a new trend in Iowa Agriculture! Several individuals have decided to try their hand at creating the perfect blend of flavors and aroma to produce a delightful wine. This will be the second year for this new contest at the Butler County Fair.
The home made wine making contest is being held under the direction of the Bluestem Winery in Parkersburg and is open to any adult exhibitor throughout the state who wishes to enter. Entries must be submitted in a standard 16 ounce bottle by 11:30 am Sunday at the Floral Hall. Judging will take place at 1:00 p.m. and will be followed by public sampling. Be sure to come by and check out YOUR favorite!

RAINED OUT GRANDSTAND EVENTS RESCHEDULED
(Allison) - Reschedule dates for two rained out events at the Butler County Fair have now been set. Imperial Stunt Drivers, which were scheduled to appear on Wednesday of the Fair, will perform on Tuesday, July 21st with the event starting at 7pm. Rained out Stock Car Racing will be held on Wednesday, July 22nd with Hot Laps at 6:30pm and racing at 7pm. 2009 Super Saver Packet tickets and VIP Pins will be honored at both events. Individual events tickets will also be available at the gate.
2009 Butler County Fair to feature Tracy Byrd
(Parkersburg) - The Butler County Fair Association announced its Grandstand Lineup for the 2009 Butler County Fair on Saturday night at its 5th Annual Sponsor Appreciation Dinner in Parkersburg.
The headline act for this year’s fair is country music artist Tracy Byrd, who will perform on Thursday evening, June 25th. Byrd has recorded numerous Top Ten hits and his Billboard #1 Singles include, ‘Holdin Heaven’ and ‘10 Rounds with Jose Cuervo.’
A popular event from years past returns to the fair this year on Wednesday night when Imperial Stunt Drivers present “The Wildest Show on Wheels” with a Thrill Show. “Over the years we’ve heard a lot of requests for the return of a car thrill show like the fair used to have with Joie Chitwood. This year was the first year that we were able to book a similar act and we are extremely excited to have them come,” said Mike Ruby Fairboard President.
The rest of the fair lineup includes a pre-fair Tuesday night Stock Car Race, a Wednesday Afternoon Antique Tractor Pull, a Friday night concert featuring Jason Brown and Gwen Sebastian. The Saturday Grandstand show’s feature afternoon Chuckwagon Racing, with Scrambles on Saturday night. The popular Barnyard Battles are on the track Sunday afternoon and the fair closes out with Figure 8 Racing Sunday night.
